Thank you for taking part in my research. This research was about the effect of neutral and emotionally-charged words on memory to help research identify whether emotionally charged words are repressed in the memory. I am hoping to gain a further understanding of the repression of traumatic memories. This may potentially add to the growing body of research which aims to help those suffering from PTSD and to find the most appropriate therapies for this. The more that is comprehended about how experiences are forgotten, the more this inversely helps us to understand the mechanisms behind remembering, which could positively impact those living with neurological impairment due to stroke, injury or other neurodegenerative conditions.
All data collected is confidential and will be stored in accordance with The Data Protection Act (2018). No participant will be referred to by name when the results are published.
There was no intentional deceptive element to the research. However, participants may have found some words more emotionally-charged than others. If any of the words caused flash-backs or for you to feel distressed in any way, please speak to your GP or contact one of the following organisations below.
